Grammar
1. Reinforced negation
Không + V + đâu.
Tôi không biết đâu. = I don’t know at all.
2. Questions in declarative form
– Bạn muốn đi đâu không? = Do you want to go somewhere?
– Tôi không muốn đi đâu đâu = I don’t want to go anywhere at all

– Bạn muốn ăn gì không? = Do you want to eat something?
– Tôi không muốn ăn gì đâu = I don’t want to eat anything at all
3. Three ways to say « very pretty »
Rất đẹp = Đẹp lắm = Đẹp quá
4. Already/Not yet
– Có chưa? = Do you have it yet?
– Có rồi = I have it already
– Chưa có =I don’t have it yet
5. Hơn = more (than)
Thích + (word) + hơn = prefer (word) more
Tôi thích + (word) + hơn + mot = I prefer (word) more than (word)

1. Biết = to know
2. Hiểu = to understand
3. Khỏe = to be well
4. Tên = name
5. Muốn = to want

8. Có thể = to be able/maybe (if used before the subject)

6. Only…and that’s it
Chỉ + … + thôi!
Chỉ có 2 người thôi! = There are only 2 people, that’s it!
7. Imperative and prohibited
Verb + đi = imperative
Examples:
- Đi đi = Go!
- Ăn đi = Eat!
Đừng + Verb = prohibition
Example: đừng đi = don’t go
8. Forming questions with « không«
– Được không? = is it possible or not
– Được = yes it’s possible
– Không được = it’s not possible
– Phải không? = is that right or not
– Phải = that’s right
– Không phải = that’s not right
– Đúng không? = is that correct or not?
– Đúng = yes that’s correct
– Sai = incorrect/false
9. But
Nhưng mà = but
Tôi thích cái này nhưng mà … = I like it, but…

Verb + lại = Re + Verb (the repetition)
– Nói lại = repeat
– Làm lại = redo
– Ở lại = stay
11. Purpose and preposition
Cho = for & để = to
Tôi mua quà cho mẹ tôi = I (pour = for, la préposition)
Tôi làm việc để kiếm tiền = je travaille pour gagner de l argent (pour = to, le but)
12. By means of (by) = Bằng
Ăn bằng đôi đũa = manger avec baguettes
Nói bằng tiếng việt = parler en vietnamien
Đi bằng xe máy = aller en scooter
