Pronunciation of vowels together
Since the Vietnamese language is very phonetic, it is important to pronounce each letter correctly. You just need to know what sound each letter corresponds to.
Not all vowels go together and go with all consonants.
Example: We never write “êng” and “ing” in Vietnamese ( têng, ting , t i ếng). Rather, “ênh” and “inh” (kinh, kênh).
Combinations with « I » and « Y »

Ân, anh, ang, an, âng, ăn et ăng
Examples : mâng, đánh , an toàn, Trang, trắng
Note: the Vietnamese accent is already nasal when saying » Trang » but it is even more so when saying » trăng « , with an effort to make a stronger nasal sound.
Oa, oă, ao
Examples : Hoa hoặc Thảo?
Au, âu, ao
Examples : Sao, sâu, sau
In, inh, iên, iêng
Examples : Tính, tín, tiến, tiếng
ynh et yên
Examples : Quỳnh, quyền
Ua, ưa, uâ
Examples : Chua , chưa , tuần
Uô et ươ
There is only UÔ/ƯƠ with the « u » and the « o » .
Examples: I want to rent a house = New/vouloir/louer/maison
Clarification: “m ướ n” is a somewhat familiar term for “rent”
Ư, u, ưu
Examples : chúc mừng, bưu điện
Ông, ong on, ôn
Examples : Ông có con ong ồn
- « Ông » and « ong » are pronounced almost the same way
- “On” in Vietnamese is pronounced like “on” from “on/off” in English.
Uy avec « Uyê » comme en français
Examples : Tuy, Huyền, tuyệt
